Resort Spotlight: Disney's POP Century

Disney’s Pop Century Resort will take you back to 20th Century American pop culture! The theme at this resort covers fads from the 1950’s – 1990’s. From Play-Doh® to Laptops this resort is sure to catch your attention and send you on a trip down memory lane!

Pop Century Resort is a value resort and prices are among the least expensive offered at Disney Resorts. This resort is just the right size for a family of 4. All rooms are 260 sq ft, with two double beds or one king bed, a table with two chairs, dresser/television stand with a 32-inch flat screen, vanity area with sink, separate bathroom area (shower/tub), in-room safe, iron/ironing board, mini fridge and telephone.

Pop Century Resort has a list of activities for your family to enjoy during their stay. Did you know that every night, weather permitting, Pop Century shows a Disney film outside? The movies begin each night at about 8:30 p.m. on the Hippy Dippy Pool deck. If you want to see everything the resort has to offer, you can take a jog (or walk) around the 1.29 mile New Balance Running Trail along the Hourglass Lake. If you are looking to enjoy something in the air conditioning, you can visit the Fast Forward Arcade located in the lobby of Classic Hall. Are you big into Pin Trading? Make sure you stop by “Everything Pop!” (Gift Shop) for daily pin trading sessions. Finally, you can visit one of the three pools located at Pop Century Resort. This may seem like an obvious answer but, if you visit the Hippy Dippy Pool in the afternoon there is a party going on every single day beginning at 1 p.m.. Cast members lead games of big wheel races, trivia, water games and much, much more. At 3 p.m. each day, there is a Hippy Dippy Pool Party followed by the Decades Dance Party at 4 p.m.

If you are looking for something great and quick to eat head over to the Classic Hall area, where you will find the Everything Pop Food Court and Gift Shop. The food court offers a little something for everyone with five specialty areas: Bakery, Grill, Market, Pizza and Ethnic cuisine are the different options you can choose from when dining. Don't forget to grab some Tie-Dye Cheesecake, it's my personal favorite!! There is also a grab-and-go grocery section that offers items for you to grab on your way back to your room or to the parks. Everything Pop Gift Shop sells gift items, candy and Walt Disney World merchandise. The Petals Pool Bar located next to the 1960’s Hippy Dippy Pool is a great place to get a delicious drink and relax.

Disney Bus Transportation runs to and from Pop Century Resort. You can visit Disney Parks, Water parks and Disney Springs (formerly Downtown Disney) by hopping on a bus in front of the Classic Hall building.

Fun Fact: Pop Century Resort was originally planned to have two distinct sections. The Classic Years Section would feature icons from the 1950’s-1990’s and The Legendary Years Section would feature icons from 1900’s-1940’s. Rumor has it that after the 9/11 attacks and tourism declined Disney decided to put a halt on “The Legendary Years” although the buildings and parking lots were already constructed. For nearly 10 years, just on the other side of Generation Gap Bridge stood an abandoned masterpiece that eventually turned into Art of Animation Resort.
