Resort Spotlight: Coronado Springs Resort
Disney's Coronado Springs Resort, located in the Animal Kingdom Resort area, sits on the 22 acre lake "Lago Dorado". The resort is split into three different guest areas: Casitas, Ranchos, and Cabanas. One of the major characteristics of the resort that separates it from the rest is the fact that it is home to a large convention center. The Coronado Springs Resort also has a unique Southwestern, Mexican inspired theme, from "El Centro" which houses the lobby, front desk, restaurants, and a gift shop, the Southwestern and Mexican influences take you to another place and time.
The resort has about 1,920 rooms with 6 different categories of guest rooms, and is in Disney's moderate resort category. The standard guest rooms sleep 4 guests, and includes a coffee maker, complimentary coffee, a flat screen tv, and a sliding wooden door that separates the sink area from the rest of the room. Coronado Springs had an extensive refurbishment in 2009, which included new bedding and furniture additions. These refurbishments are evident in their exceptional bedding and overall room comfort.
The dining options at the resort are varied and include the Pepper Market food court: which along with serving American fare also serves Southwestern fare with traditional Mexican influences. Quick grab and go dining options such as the Siestas Pool Bar and Grill, the Laguna Bar, and Cafe Rix, are also available. The Maya Grill is the table service restaurant located on property and true to its name serves a variety of grilled seafood and meats, with a southwestern touch. The Ventanas Grill is at the entrance to the Convention Center and provides convention guests with a dining option and also serves similar food options to those found at the Pepper Market food court, however with a limited menu.
The convention center isn't the only thing that makes this hotel unique. The Dig Site, is home to a 50 foot Mayan pyramid that sits over the pool, in "the Lost City of Cibola", and includes a waterfall cascading over the side of the pyramid. The Dig Site area has fun for all ages, with a kiddie pool, the Iguana Arcade, Siestas Pool Bar and Grill, and a beach volleyball court. Daily activities at the resort include: pool parties at 3:00 p.m., a poolside campfire at 6:30 pm, and movies under the stars that begin at 8:30 p.m.. There is so much more to do at the resort than to just relish in the beauty of the atmosphere! In addition to the Dig Site, each area (Casitas, Ranchos, and Cabanas) has it’s own smaller "quiet" pool. The largest hot tub in Disney World is located at the Dig Site and offers a great option for mom and dad to get some quiet time! Another option for adults is the Vida Health Club, with fitness equipment available so you can continue with your workout routine! Spa services and Salon services are also available at the Vida Health Club, by appointment only.
