What does being a Travel Agent mean to me?
It has been a dream come true! All my life I have loved to travel. As a child, my father used to fly cessna planes and we would fly to the Keys or to Venice beach for the weekend and I loved being able to just pack my little backpack and go away. When I was a teenager we took an even bigger trip: we packed up our Datsun 280z and attached a popup camper to the back of it and on July 1st we headed out on the Road Trip of a lifetime! We camped our entire way from Florida to California and back again - and my Dad made sure we didn’t cross back into Pinellas County until July 31st. We stayed in 2 hotels during that trip, once in Albuquerque, NM (due to the car trouble) and once in Las Vegas, in a little dive motel on the outskirts of the strip. We also stayed we relatives in Los Angeles, CA and Yuma, AZ and we did and saw so many things on this trip: the Smokey Mountains, Graceland, Carlsbad Caverns, the Grand Canyon (which I HIKED), Malibu Beach, Hollywood Blvd, the Alamo, and New Orleans.
That trip actually helped fuel my love for travel in more ways than I would ever imagine.
Just recently I helped a family of 5 plan a 3 week RV roadtrip out west. They started in Denver, Colorado, drove to Moab, UT, then headed south to the Grand Canyon and over to Yosemite and Lake Tahoe (two other places I’ve also been to) then over to Boise and and up to Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming and ended their trip back in Denver. I was able to give them tons of tips on what they should do on their journey and booked them car rentals so they were able to get around these awesome places to play. They kayaked, white-water-rafted, fished and had a great time exploring and enjoyed the itinerary I constructed for them. It was chocked full of maps, reservation info, and fun excursions they had booked plus some extras ones they could do along the way. I don’t normally book trips like that, but it was a lot of fun to work with and I would love to do something like that again for more families.
Living in Florida, I am close proximity to the House of Mouse which has helped me gain my status of Disney-guru, er, DsnyGuru. My family and I have been vacationing at Walt Disney World for almost 10 years now and in January 2015 I decided it was time to put my love of Disney and travel to good use. I joined Fairytale Adventures Travel Agency. Since then, I have helped over 30 families plan Disney vacations (some multiple trips) and I get to share my love of Disney in the process! One way I do this is by giving the kids little gifts before their trips and I send my clients special thank you gifts as well.
Last December, one of my biggest dreams true, I got fly to Los Angeles for training and go to Disneyland! This is was perfect, I needed to experience the Happiest Place on Earth for myself so I could let my clients know what to expect - and boy oh boy are they all in for a treat! It is just as magical as you would think it would be - and California Adventure is an amazing theme park in itself! From Radiator Springs Racers to Toy Story Mania to California Screamin’ - we had a blast. Plus I was able see each of Disneyland’s resort hotels which is great for my guests. I will be able to answer any of their questions or concerns they might have when they are ready to book their Disneyland vacations.
While I haven’t travelled on a Disney Cruise yet, I have been fortunate enough to tour them and they are by far some of the best ships in the industry. I recently cruised on the MSC Divina, which is a European cruise line and it was very pleasant and I would definitely recommend them to all of my guests. The MSC Divina offered a very relaxing cruise. The ambiance of the ship left me recharged and ready to reconnect when I returned.
I’ve come a long way since the day I first started, I attribute a lot of my success to learning a lot along the way and having great mentors. My family, friends and guests who send referrals my way are angels to me and I wish they could know how much their support really means to me. As a stay at home mom, who does this part time, it can be a struggle, but it’s a fun way to meet new people. I love to help to help families with making magical memories that last and why I love what I do. Helping families with adding those little details that they may have forgotten able can really step their vacations up to the next level.
